- PRESS RELEASE
Shell was recognised at the ADIPEC Excellence in Energy Awards with Shell operated ventures and joint ventures scooping four out of five categories of project excellence, at a ceremony held in Abu Dhabi during ADIPEC week.
Speaking after the ceremony, Dr. John Barry Country Chairman of Shell Abu Dhabi said "We are truly grateful for this recognition at such an important industry forum, which is a tribute to ADNOC who have established these awards"
The Pearl Gas to Liquids (GTL) project won the Best MENA Oil and Gas Project Award against intense competition in recognition of the originality of its concept and the long-term value it generates for the State of Qatar and Shell. Pearl GTL demonstrates that GTL technology can be applied in a world-scale project to form the foundation for a safe, reliable and economically attractive business.
The CSR Award was given to the Shell operated Majnoon project for their submission 'More than an Oil Field Project'. This highlighted the way in which Shell operations are changing the landscape of Basrah, creating jobs and implementing a robust oil field development - notably, the re-opening of the Shatt al Arab waterway. The project was also recognized for training local unemployed people from nearby communities, which resulted in the employment of 2500 local staff.
Petroleum Development Oman (PDO), in which Shell is a joint venture partner, won the 'Best MENA Oil & Gas HSE Project or Initiative Award' for the Nimr Water Treatment Plant. This project sets new standards for the challenge of water disposal. It uses produced water to irrigate reed beds thus cleaning the water and, potentially in the future, creating a crop that can be used as biofuel. In a region so short of water, and yet with abundant waste water from oil field operations, the Nimr project points to a new future. PDO also won the 'Best MENA Oilfield/Gas Field Management Strategy Award' for their Well and Reservoir Management. The extraordinary reduction in oil field decline rates over the last decade in PDO has been instrumental in helping the company to deliver consistently high performance.
Saudi Aramco won 'The Best MENA Oil & Gas Innovation or Technology Award.
