The Romanian Minister of Economy and Commerce, during a meeting with Sultan Ahmad Bin Sulayem, Chairman, Dubai World, expressed deep trust in economic cooperation between Romania and Dubai.

Describing Dubai as a leader in trade and tourism, Ioan Codrut Seres, Romania's Minister of Economy and Commerce, said: "We highly appreciate the extraordinary and seamless experience that Dubai has undergone. We are pinning great hopes on Dubai to expand the frames of work and cooperation between the two parties, especially after the highly successful experience led by DP World in operating and managing the Port of Constansa in Romania. This encourages us to take similar steps for the development of other infrastructure facilities in Romania, especially free zones.

"My country is witnessing a thriving economy which in turn helps to attract foreign capital. We look forward to having joint ventures with a global business pioneer like Dubai World.

"Romania's potentials are not yet fully discovered and we hope our cooperation with Dubai World would help exploit these potentials and expand to cover other sectors like hospitality, real estate, shopping malls, and different logistic services."

Sultan Ahmed Bin Sulayem, Chairman, Dubai World, said: "We are keen to build distinguished relations with Romania and we will explore any investment opportunities that may arise.

"Our relations are based on mutual trust and respect, especially since our success in operating and managing the Port of Constansa and the completion of the first phase of expansion there. We are ready to start the second phase that includes increasing the holding capacity in the port as well as enlarging the container terminal and increasing the number of modern cranes.

"At Dubai World we believe that this success would lead to cooperation in real estate and tourism.

"Another major area of interest is investment in economic free zones in Romania. A team of experts from Jebel Ali Free Zone Authority has visited Romania to meet senior officials there, exploring possible future cooperation."

The meeting was attended by Serban Tanase, Trade Commissioner and Head of Mission at the Romanian Consulate in Dubai.
