BBK makes landmark donation to children's reading library

The recent opening of reading library 12 October 2006 Iqraa, part of the Shaikh Ebrahim bin Mohammed Al Khalifa Center for Culture and Research was the culmination of 8 months' worth of work aimed at bringing the joy of books to Bahraini children.

BBK was the sole sponsor of the project, as part of the Bank's ongoing support to promoting cultural and educational causes.

BBK GM and CEO, Dr. Farid Al Mulla, and members of BBK Executive Management attended the opening ceremony, which was held at the Shaikh Ebrahim bin Mohammed Al Khalifa center under the patronage of His Highness Shaikh Essa bin Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, son of His Highness the Crown Prince, and was attended by dignitaries and invited guests.

On the occasion of the Center's milestone addition, Dr. Al Mulla said, "BBK's large contribution to Iqraa was made based on the compelling value proposition of the library, which uniquely blends education and culture for the young generation. The Shaikh Ebrahim bin Mohammed Al Khalifa Center is very active in preserving both Bahraini and Arab culture and heritage, and we were very keen to support this new initiative to ensure that the Center can continue its efforts to reach a wide audience."

Shaikha Mai bint Mohammed Al Khalifa, who owns the Center, said, "The opening of Iqraa is truly a dream come true for us, and would not have been possible without BBK's generous support. The Bank's donation reflects BBK's vision and foresight in providing opportunities for Bahrain's future generation, and we are very grateful for this contribution."
