The Temporary Terminal is located in a secure structure themed and designed to reflect an Arabian tent. The whole facility measures 110 metres by 80 metres and is capable of handling a flow of 2,300 arriving and departing passengers per hour during the Games. The Temporary Terminal will function prior and during the Games and will be dismantled after the event.
"The 15th Asian Games Temporary Terminal, like any regular airport terminal, is designed to handle arriving and departing passengers. The existing Doha International Airport terminals will continue to serve passengers arriving on all international flights, while the Temporary Terminal will be used exclusively for all accredited athletes, officials, media and guests",
said Mr. Abdulla K. Al Qahtani.
The 15th Asian Games Temporary Terminal was built using CapacityPlus a turnkey solution that provides all functions of a regular airport terminal including arrival and departure function areas, immigration services, systems for baggage handling and enhanced security for passengers and baggage.
In order to provide a better service to the Athletes' Village residents, avoid potential queues and provide opportunity to Doha International Airport and the Airport Ground Handler to spread peak demand levels for baggage sorting and loading into off peak periods, DAGOC is working in cooperation with the airport community on an "off Airport Processing" scheme, in which, depending on the national team size, selected teams will be invited to participate.
The scheme foresees preparation of boarding passes and baggage tags at the 15th Asian Games Temporary Terminal, collection, weight registration and tagging of the baggage at the Athletes' Village at pre-specified times, loading into trucks and transportation to the Terminal for security screening and aircraft loading. The whole process has to conform to State, DAGOC, Airport and Airline security rules.
