US exports to Mideast up 38%

US exports to the Middle East rose 38.4% to $21.4bn in the first eight months of 2006 compared to the same period in 2005, Reuters quoted the US ambassador to Bahrain, William Monroe, as saying. The UAE received $7.5bn worth of US exports in the period, up 58.5%; while Bahrain, which has a free trade agreement with the US, took in $296m worth of American goods, an increase of 43.6%.
