Mitsubishi to widen presence in Kingdom

Mitsubishi Motors Corporation (MMC) intends to expand its presence in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, the Japanese car company's top executive said on Saturday (November 4).

Mr. Osamu Masuko, president of Mitsubishi Motors, said in a press conference at the Jeddah Hilton Hotel, that the Kingdom remains a very important market for the Japanese carmaker as indicated by his second visit to the country.

"We consider Saudi Arabia as one of the most important markets, having a big potential for the car business,"


the MMC president said, noting the remarkable growth in both the public and private sectors of the economy.

Mr. Masuko forecast a higher demand for new vehicles in the Kingdom and said that the carmaker would introduce new models in the coming years that will cater to all segments of the market, aside from the recently launched all-new Mitsubishi L200 and Mitsubishi Galant.

"I believe these new models will satisfy the customers' needs in this market. Adding to these models, we are also planning to introduce another new models in coming years. Attractive new design, higher performance, new safety features and various options and accessories that will satisfy the customers," he pointed out.

"A 2.4L MIVEC engine model is brought this year and 3.8L MIVEC engine model will be introduced next year."

The new L200 introduced a future style in pickup, providing unique design and better performance. The 4WD model of the new L200 is powered by the so called "common-rail engine" - new technology in diesel engine - which provides bigger power with environmental friendly system.

Masuko also highlighted its strong relations with Alesayi Motors - Mitsubishi Motors' sole distributor in the Kingdom, saying that Alesayi's vast networks satisfy the customers' demand.

"MMC will further strengthen the relationship with Alesayi Motors in all aspects to improve our customers' satisfaction," he added.

On the issue of environmental awareness, Masuko aptly said MMC has it as a top priority, equally important as the safety and comfort of its customers.

"We recognize that protection of the global environment is a priority for humankind. From a global viewpoint, we commit ourselves to continuous reduction of negative environmental impact of our corporate activities with all our strength, from the development, procurement, production, sales, and after-sale servicing activities related to automobiles," he pointed out.

Masuko's first visited Saudi Arabia in November 2005 at the opening ceremony of Alesayi's new showroom in Riyadh.
