PTCL officials meet with Pakistan PM

Pakistan Telecommunications Company Limited (PTCL) CEO, Mohammad Bamakhrama, and the UAE Ambassador to Pakistan, HE Mohammad Ali Al Shamsi, held a meeting with Pakistan Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz.

The Prime Minister complimented PTCL on their achievements in creating growth and several opportunities in the Pakistan telecom sector.

Commenting on the investment by UAE telco, Emirates Telecommunications Corporation- Etisalat, Mr. Aziz said that due to consistent economic growth in Pakistan, the demand for fixed and mobile telephony has increased, leading to the creation of excellent investment opportunities and increased inflow of foreign investment in the telecom sector.

The Prime Minister said that the privatization of PTCL would provide an impetus for further improvement and expansion of ties between the UAE and Pakistan in various areas.

During their meeting, Mohammed Bamakhrama outlined to the PM the reforms and new initiatives being undertaken by PTCL to improve services and coverage, and he also briefed the PM about the expansion plans of PTCL.

In a related announcement, PTCL has also confirmed that it has been awarded the first ever IPTV licence in Pakistan. This state-of-the-art technology is being rapidly adopted in developed counties enabling users to enjoy triple play through one source over an IP network. TV, Internet, and telephony can now be offered on a single line.

Built on a digital platform, IPTV will offer superior service quality to customers compared to the traditional cable system. This technology will offer choice to viewers to select from bouquets of selected programmes of their choice through Conditional Access System (CAS).

PTCL has been breaking new ground over the last few months and is looking for further success. Mohammed Bamakhrama, CEO, PTCL said: "We have some exciting plans that we will be announcing soon. Having been granted this IPTV licence from among nearly 49 nations in the Asia-Pacific region, we see this as proof of our success and established reputation."
