A Nov. 3, 2006 report by the New Straits Times newspaper of Malaysia, which was picked up by a number of international wire services, erroneously reported that Saudi Aramco would relocate "a regional headquarters" from Singapore to Kuala Lumpur.

Article continues below

The facts are as follows:

- Saudi Petroleum Limited, a Saudi Aramco subsidiary, has an office in Singapore. Its primary function is to provide sales and marketing support to Saudi Aramco customers in the region. The functions and location of this office will not change.

- Aramco Overseas Company (another Saudi Aramco subsidiary) is opening a new office in Kuala Lumpur. The primary function of this office will be to coordinate contracting, purchasing and materials inspection activities with regional suppliers. At the same time, Aramco Overseas Company is opening a similar office in Shanghai, China.

The opening of these two new offices reflects the growing importance of the Asia Pacific region to Saudi Aramco, not only as a market for its crude oil and products, but also as a provider of essential goods, materials and services.

Details regarding the opening of these two new Aramco Overseas Company offices will be forthcoming.
