Takamul makes its mark on the international disability arena

Takamul, Dubai Education Council's (DEC) initiative for people with special needs, made its mark on the international disability scene when they presented at the annual conference of The Association of University Centres on Disabilities (AUCD) in Washington DC.
In the international session that included representatives from WHO and the UN, Dr. Al Yousuf went on to explain Takamul's approach in making Dubai a barrier free society for people with special needs (pwsn). Both WHO and UN representatives also presented their disability related agenda for pwsn.
Commenting on the Takamul participation, Dr. Al Yousuf said, "The AUCD annual conference in the US is considered a prestigious international conference and it is important to attend and participate in these conferences. The invitation to present at AUCD is indicative of the high profile of the Takamul programs that have a far-reaching impact and an international perspective."
The Takamul project is considered the first of its kind in the region and aims at making available for pwsn the best specialized resources and best quality services and programs.
Takamul, will launch in the next in the few months, programs to prepare specialised and qualified expertise and resources in the different sectors i.e. Health care, Accessible Environments, Education and Employment. These experts will provide complimentary services for pwsn.
AUCD is a national non-profit organization representing a network of interdisciplinary, university-based Centers dedicated to research, education, training, policy development, and direct service for people with disabilities in the US.

Takamul is an initiative of the Dubai Education Council (DEC) and aims to be the apex body for people with special needs in the UAE.Takamul envisions the inclusion and self-determination of people with special needs and their families in a barrier-free society. Takamul will advance appropriate special needs-related policy and best practices through innovative, coordinated and sustainable research, education and service activities. Takamul will form partnerships with appropriate international and local organizations, including key stakeholders, to ensure a smooth continuum of service delivery to people with special needs in all areas of life.
The policy for this will be based on scientific and well-researched facts to ensure availability of services in the areas of health care, assistive technology, human resource development and leadership.
Takamul will engage in the promotion of policy that protects the rights of people with special needs. Takamul also participates in awareness based activities and recognizes the importance of including people with special needs and their families in a barrier-free society.
