VeriSign unveils Egypt's first regional Internet resolution site for .com, .net infrastructure

VeriSign, Inc. (NASDAQ: VRSN), a leading provider of intelligent infrastructure for the networked world, announced the installation of a Regional Internet Resolution Server (RIRS) for .com and .net in Cairo, Egypt.
"We are extremely pleased to be working with the Egyptian government and with Xceed," said Ken Silva, Chief Security Officer for VeriSign. "VeriSign continually seeks to locate RIR sites in geographic locations where traffic demand shows significant growth. Egypt's usage has surged over 1,100%(1) since 2000. The VeriSign RIRS will improve the Internet experience and overall security for the growing number of Internet users in the country."
"We are very proud that VeriSign has chosen Egypt as a key global location to establish this Regional Internet Resolution site," said Dr. Tarek Kamel, Minister of Communications and Information Technology.
"Xceed operates one of the newly established state-of-the-art data centers located at The Pyramids Smart Village and is interconnected to the Internet exchange point of Cairo. We are very appreciative that VeriSign has recognized the growth of Internet usage in Egypt and our country's role as an economic driver for the region.
"This project comes as an additional dimension for Egypt's Internet infrastructure, to better serve Internet users not only in Egypt but also in the region.
