HMSDC recommends urgent steps to combat rising diabetes and obesity in the Gulf

The Harvard Medical School Dubai Center (HMSDC) Institute for Postgraduate Education & Research today opened a seminar titled "Specialty Practi-Med: Endocrinology for Primary Care Physicians and Obstetricians" from 9-10 November at the Grand Hyatt Hotel, Dubai.
The continuing medical education course for general practitioners, internists and endocrinologists in the UAE and Gulf region addresses latest developments and current best practices in endocrinology, and feature keynote lectures by clinical leaders from Harvard Medical School and the Gulf, as well as interactive small-group workshops.
Robert L. Thurer, MD, Chief Academic Officer of HMSDC said, "Endocrine disorders present a major challenge in the region, with the prevalence of obesity and diabetes as well as related health problems on the rise. Strategies are urgently needed to prevent these conditions and reduce their burden, which impacts both the quality of life and economic well-being."
The Endocrinology Seminar is led by Anthony Hollenberg, MD, Associate Professor of Medicine at Harvard Medical School. He is joined by colleagues at Harvard Medical School as well as leading faculty from the region.
The programme of the Seminar is designed to provide participants with the latest strategies regarding the prevention, recognition, diagnosis, and treatment of important endocrine syndromes.
It will also introduce them to new and emerging concepts impacting the practice of endocrinology. Topics will include management of thyroid disease, diagnosis and treatment of Type II diabetes, the role of nutrition in the prevention and management of diabetes, and current medical and surgical approaches to the therapy of obesity.
Attendees of the course will receive an HMSDC certificate of attendance and will be fully accredited for continuing medical education by both local and international institutions.
