Held under the patronage of the Federation of Inter-Asian Philatelic (FIAP), the exhibition aims to promote philately in the region, and provide an excellent opportunity for stamp collectors to appreciate, learn and be inspired by the world of international philately.
Featuring over 600 stands from 30 Asian countries, including Japan, Indonesia, Pakistan and India, the exhibition will be attended by stamp collectors, stamp dealers and representatives from the global postal sector.
Abdulla Al Daboos, Director General of Emirates Post, said: 'It is the first time that the Asian Stamp Exhibition will be held in an Arab country, and it is an honour for the UAE to have earned the confidence of its organizers to offer a powerful platform that promotes regional philately. The event also gives us another reason to be proud about as organizers of leading international gatherings and exhibitions.'
To commemorate the event, Emirates Post released a special stamp on 24 June, featuring offset embossing with gold foil.
Surajit Gongvatana, FIAP Co-ordinator, said: 'It is heartening to note that the UAE has won several awards in international competitions. It is a pleasure to be part of an exhibition that will provide an excellent opportunity for all philatelists from Asia and the Pacific region to come together for the first time in Dubai.'
Abdulla M.T. Khoury, President of the Emirates Philatelic Association, said: 'A postage stamp is not only a pre-paid tariff for mail - it is a summary of a nation's history and culture. The exhibition is in recognition of the initiative of stamp collectors, and will greatly encourage them to continue with their efforts.'
The 18th Asian Stamp Exhibition was held at the Taipei World Trade Center, Taiwan, and marked the 10th anniversary of the Chinese Taipei Philatelic Federation. It included 150 stands bearing the unique collections of participants from 22 countries.
