The company will be participating in the trade event in partnership with eSys Technologies and Redington Gulf.

The highlight of Western Digital's participation at Gitex will be the showcase of its new WD MyBook PRO external drives that allow users to add massive backup storage for their business files, music, videos, photos and games. The new storage system provides users a safe place to secure as much as one terabyte (1 TB) of digital content. The MyBook Pro Edition II uses RAID technology to instantaneously duplicate user data for extra protection or to accelerate the delivery of data to users.

The MyBook Pro Edition II system can be set to reserve half of its capacity to mirror users' data in real time using RAID technology. This means that when data is saved to the MyBook Pro Edition II system, two copies of the data are instantaneously recorded - each on separate internal hard drives. RAID 1 ensures the safety of users' data because, in the unlikely event that one of the hard drives inside fails, the other drive will read and write data until the faulty drive is replaced and rebuilt to once again safely mirror the data.

"Gitex being the region's biggest IT trade event is an ideal platform to display our portfolio of new-age hard drives that are helping businesses and individuals derive enhanced benefits from IT," said Hafeez Khawaja, WD's Senior Regional Director, Middle East, Africa, South Asia.

"We expect Gitex 2006 to provide us with an opportunity for boosting our sales in this region, which is witnessing surging demand for internal and external hard drives and other critical computer parts. We are delighted to team up with eSys Technologies and Redington Gulf to derive optimum benefit from our participation in this event."

"We are eager to showcase the MyBook Pro Edition II, which is designed for small-office environments where large amounts of content is managed, as well as for consumers who have vast, highly valuable libraries of music, photos and video. This series of external drives are extremely simple to use, come with massive storage capacities, triple interface and a very efficient and user-friendly backup software. Further, these drives are also extremely stylish and are elegantly designed," added Khawaja.

WD's products will be displayed at their partner stands located at Hall 2, Stand No. D2-20 and Hall 3, Stand No. A-325. Senior officials and experts from WD, eSys Technologies and Redington Gulf will be on hand to interact with trade visitors, corporate clients and the media, and provide hands-on demonstrations on different products.

WD will also highlight other key products, including the next-generation WD Passport® drives. WD's newly redesigned WD Passport Portable Drives have grown in storage capacity and have shrunk in physical size, and are now shipping. Featuring a stylish, ultra-portable design and sleek, piano-black finish, WD Passport is available in capacities of 60, 80, 120 and 160 GB, fits easily in your pocket or purse and weighs less than 5 ounces and is powered via the USB interface.
