Scheduled from 27-29 November, 2006, at Dubai World Trade Centre, Hall 4, the Fitness Summit is one of the features of Sportex - the largest sports, fitness and leisure show in the Middle East.
While extending her support to Sportex-MEFIT-06, Sheikha Madiya said, "I think the stupendous growth of Dubai has brought in a degree of health and fitness consciousness. An increasing number of women are making fitness a regular part of their daily routine. This growing awareness is also creating a demand for information on health and fitness. I feel the Fitness Summit is a very relevant initiative to address a lot of topics, concerns and myths associated with health and fitness."
Sheikha Madiya who proudly carries the mantle of the rich sports legacy of the ruling Maktoun family, is an accomplished horse rider and a fitness enthusiast. In fact Sheikha Madiya set a new benchmark by becoming the first national woman to complete an international 160km endurance ride. Sheikha Madiya achieved the feat when she finished 25th in the Abu Dhabi Arabian Nights ride in Idaho, north west of the US. Calling H.H Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum her inspiration, Sheikha Madiya trains daily and lists Body Combat and RPM as her favourite activities.
MEFIT06 would combine informative lectures with practical hands on sessions and activities on a wide range of topics and issues related to health and fitness, sports injury, diet and nutrition, weight management. The summit will also focus on health issues like obesity, lifestyle diseases and also feature simple lifestyle changes that substantially contribute to healthy living. The summit would be specially focusing on the management of lifestyle related disorders in children.
Sheikha Madiya would very much be a part of the exclusive 'women's only morning' to be held at Dubai Ladies Club which will feature two fitness classes and a presentation on Nutrition for Healthy Lifestyles. Sheika Madiya has urged upon women from all walks of life and nationalities to participate in the event and benefit from it.
International Expo Consults and Middle East Fitness Professionals - the joint organisers of MEFIT-06 have welcomed Sheika's endorsement of the event, calling her a role model for women in the region.
