With year on year growth at a staggering 99 per cent and a current 24% market share, Toshiba is the only vendor to experience significant growth across all markets in the region as opposed to the other leading notebook manufacturers.

Ahmed Khalil, general manager for Toshiba Computer Systems, Middle East and Africa acknowledged that the positive results just before the opening of Gitex, the most important technology show in the region to be held at Dubai World Trade Centre from 18th to 22nd November.

Q3 sales figures see Toshiba back in the number one spot in terms of market share in the Middle East region and mean that the company has achieved its self-imposed target of growing ahead of market growth across the region.

"Once again, Toshiba has confirmed its stronghold on the market, this is mainly due to the quality of our products and the proximity to the channel that allow us to sustain profitability across the value chain and better reach the consumer,"

said Khalil.

"2006 has by no means been an easy year for sales around the region but I am proud to say that the efforts of my team couple with a healthy mix of consumer and professional products have allowed us to ride the wave and come out on top of the game, added Khalil. "We are looking forward to a busy and profitable Gitex and are exited about the promotions and the product launches at the show and beyond."

Toshiba's performance was particularly strong in important markets such as Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Qatar and Oman, where the company claimed the lion's share of each of these markets. "One of the main reason for Toshiba's overall high performance in these countries is our strategy of focusing on segment driven market development activities," commented Khalil.

Saudi and Kuwait were particularly important as Toshiba focus markets for 2006, where the company enjoyed a growth of 103 per cent and 90.4 per cent respectively.

"We are confident that our new strategy of appointing country managers on the ground, as has been the case in Saudi Arabia and the Levant, will allow us to maintain the lead in the region by enhancing customer intimacy and getting us closer to our channel and reseller network," he added.

Toshiba and the new management team will be participating in this year's Gitex, where they will be showcasing new products and sharing future plans. The company's exhibition stand will be located in Hall 3, stand B3-10.
