H. E. Sheikha Lubna Al Qasimi to emphasize need for effective leadership initiatives in times of changing regional economy

Emphasizing the need for effective global leadership in times of changing regional economy, H. E. Sheikha Lubna Al Qasimi, UAE Minister of Economy said, with UAE coming to the forefront as one of the leading world economies, it is imperative to formulate strategies and initiatives to create effective and efficient global leaders in all branches of economy.

"The development of an effective leadership cadre has become one of the core areas of interest in today's global scenario. With the region's economy experiencing unprecedented rate of growth and expansion in the business, trade, industry and service sectors, the need for creating a wide base of global leaders in all branches of economic activity has become a matter of prime importance, said Sheikha Lubna."

Sheikha Lubna will share her leadership experiences with business and political figure heads from the region at the forthcoming Abu Dhabi World Leadership Summit. The summit is scheduled for the 21st of November 2006 at the exclusive Emirates Palace.

Appointed as the first woman government minister, Sheikha Lubna will draw her experiences on Global Leadership and deliberate on the qualities of leadership as she herself perceived them from her wide interaction with global leaders. "Leadership is the ability to be both efficient and effective. An effective leader needs to have a vision. This vision needs to be a clear idea of what, when, where, why, and how that vision will be achieved," feels Her Excellency Sheikha Lubna Al Qasimi.

"A leader needs to show enthusiasm and commitment to the vision and be able to display this to others. A leader needs passion for the vision and the ability to transfer this passion along to others" she further adds.

Addressing the challenges faced by today's leaders, Sheikha Lubna, said: "Global leaders face many challenges including; how to deal with the broader social, cultural, ethical, and political and business representation. Today, many international organizations are now paying careful attention as to how they can get the right global leadership and team development programs and procedures in place to assure that the right investments are being made in the right people to ensure maximum return on investment."

"To become a successful global leader in today's global landscape requires a skill set which encompasses critical core behavioral competencies that differ considerably from those of domestic leaders. These "global behavioral competencies" allow leaders to effectively handle a wide range of challenges they face in today's competitive global marketplace including: how to best work with their regional clients and counterparts, how to lead a diverse multinational team, implementation of new initiatives and the integration of different people and organizations," she further adds.
