The multi-coloured dual language, English/Arabic signs, measuring 22 metres by 11 metres overlook Defence Roundabout, on Dubai's busy Sheikh Zayed Road from a height of 17 floors (52 metres) above the ground.
Similar to those in New York's Time Square or London's Oxford Circus, the multi-point flashing signs, which face in opposite directions, were manufactured in sections by Emirates Neon before being fully tested and assembled on site over night following approval by Dubai Municipality.
"Mega-neon signs are still popular with clients because they are less costly to make, in comparison with electronic media, but and are also 25% more energy efficient," said Rehan Merchant, Executive Director, Emirates Neon.
"Not many UAE-based outdoor advertising companies have the capacity to build such big signs and none have the capability to install them overnight. As a result we are seeing increased interest from leading multinational and blue chip companies impressed by the impact of the signs."
The signs use argon gas mixed with mercury and have multiple layers of neon tubing, each powered in a timed sequence, to produce its effects and to switch between English and Arabic.
"Emirates Neon provided LG with an opportunity to use one of best and most well known neon sites in Dubai. The neon sign at Defence Roundabout will give LG terrific brand exposure to the thousands of people who pass along Sheikh Zayed road every month," said Mr P. C. As well as being cost-effective and a spectacular advertising media, neon signs can last many years if properly maintained. The first sign installed by Emirates Neon 26 years ago in Mina Bazaar is still in perfect working order.
