- United Arab Emirates: Tuesday, November 14 - 2006 at 12:24
- PRESS RELEASE
Multimedia Development Corporation (MDeC) today announced its participation at GITEX 2006 with a view to showcasing and offering the superior Malaysian IT industry's products and services to leading technology adopters in the Middle East.
Through the participating companies at the Malaysia pavilion at GITEX, MDeC will promote exports of MSC Malaysia products and services in key areas including Islamic banking, telecommunications, mobile content and applications, logistics, telehealth, smart cards, e-Government and e-security applications. Another area that MDeC will be aggressively promoting is in the area of shared services and outsourcing, in which Malaysia has a distinct advantage.
Sixteen MSC Malaysia-status companies will be participating in GITEX, touted as the largest and most successful ICT exhibition in the Middle East. Besides the MSC Malaysia showcase, the event will facilitate opportunities for business leaders from Malaysia to network with their foreign partners through business to business meetings (B2B) held from Nov 18 - Nov 22.
MDeC's participation at GITEX will provide an opportune platform for MSC Malaysia-status companies to explore investment opportunities in the Middle East and to forge business collaboration and joint ventures with companies in the region. MDeC will also actively promote MSC Malaysia as a gateway for Middle East companies that are planning to form joint ventures in Malaysia and markets in the region.
Malaysia's participation over the last two years had been encouraging with a number of deals being cemented between MSC Malaysia-status companies and Middle East corporations.
The most recent achievement included an agreement between MSC Malaysia-status company, Green Packet Berhad, with Kalaam Telecommunications Bahrain for the adoption of Green Packet's technology for the deployment of wireless broadband last mile solution.
This development represents a significant breakthrough for a Malaysian company into the huge Middle East market and paves the way for greater bilateral collaboration between both countries.
Another MSC Malaysia-status company, Scan Associates Berhad, had recently secured a project to supply and maintain security devices and network security services to Kuwait Finance House (Malaysia) Berhad.
Since its implementation in 1996, MSC Malaysia has attracted leading world class companies to locate and use its facilities for research, product and technology development for export and local adoption. As of Oct 31, 2006, there are a total of 1,634 MSC Malaysia status companies of which 77 are global corporations.
MDeC will also leverage on GITEX 2006 to promote the World Congress on Information Technology (WCIT) which Malaysia is hosting in 2008. WCIT 2008 provides the opportunity for Malaysia to attract companies from the Middle East to network with Malaysian ICT companies. It also provides an excellent platform for Malaysia to brand MSC Malaysia as a fast developing, attractive, liberal and advanced investment hub to relevant and potential clients, investors, businesses and foreign governments.
