DED will exhibit at Dubai eGovernment's stand at Hall No. 8, Sheikh Maktoum Hall.

At GITEX, DED is highlighting its technology-driven initiatives that ensure added-value service to its clients and empower Dubai's businesses with e-Commerce capabilities that lend momentum to the transformation of Dubai into a knowledge-based economy.

"In keeping with the directives of HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE, Ruler of Dubai and Chairman of DED, to move rapidly towards full-fledged e-Government procedures, DED is committed to applying eGovernment policies and procedures that raise productivity levels and ensure high quality service to customers," said Sultan Ali Lootah, Head of the IT Division at DED.

Several DED staff members from the IT Division headed by Mr. Abdulla Al Kaabi, Support IT Team Leader at DED, will be present at the stand to address visitors' inquiries regarding DED's services and initiatives such as the Tayseer service, 'InfoTouch', the advanced interactive voice response (IVR) and DED's Internet services offered via its website, www.dubaided.gov.ae.

The Tayseer service was launched last year as a joint initiative between the DED and Dubai e-Government to ease business registration procedures and create an investor-friendly environment in Dubai. The service enables DED clients to send specific enquiries to the Department and receive instantaneous responses via SMS. DED addresses enquiries regarding the status of the trade license transaction and about fines that have accumulated on trade licenses.

InfoTouch offers mobile access for trade license information as well as value-added services through Windows-based pocket PCs and Symbian-based Nokia mobile phones. This system enables business owners to instantly obtain crucial information and manage their trade license registration procedures at their convenience without having to call or visit the Department

Through the advanced interactive voice response (IVR) system, customers only need to dial a toll-free number 2020200 and choose to inquire about the status of their licenses or transactions, which may be received via SMS or automated telephone messages. Customers can also inquire about the modes of payment for licenses, details on fines and ways of receiving documents either over telephone or by SMS or fax.

"The Department of Economic Development aspires to provide more tech-driven and value-added services that would lead to enhanced performance while lessening costs on both the government and business owners," added Sultan.

About Department of Economic Development (DED):

The Department of Economic Development (DED) was established in March 1992, with the objective to organise, regulate and boost trade and industry within the Emirate of Dubai. The DED has moulded its mission of building a futuristic establishment, in accordance with the vision of the Government of Dubai and in the light of globalisation and the requirements of a digital economy. One of its key functions is to encourage local and foreign investments in commercial and industrial projects, and create the appropriate environment for investors.

The DED's other functions comprise a wide range of regulatory activities including the preparation and maintenance of a commercial register and the supervision of all organisations. The DED is responsible for regulating the affairs of commercial agents and brokers and commercial advertising offices, in addition to overseeing and controlling the insurance industry in the Emirate. Examining the participation of the government in the private sector and representing the government in companies where it has a stake, also comes under the purview of the DED.
