"The UAE youth are competent enough to power the regions Research & Development (R&D) future" said Eng. Yahya Bin Saeed Al Lootah, Vice Chairman, S.S. Lootah Group, during his meeting with Dr. Dieter Fuchs, President elect of the World Association of Industrial and Technological Research Organizations (WAITRO).

"The current poor investment in R&D programs in the Middle East regions doesn't reflect its true potential, This year, the number of UAE national students at Dubai Medical College for example has reached over 50% an increase by 100% over the past few years, this reflects how our youth are attracted to scientific studies where they can excel and contribute to the best way possible to our economic needs and future growth" said Eng. Yahya Lootah.

Dr. Dieter Fuchs, the new WAITRO president serves as the Director of International business Development, at Fraunhofer, the leading applied research institute in Germany and the world who are working closely with S.S. Lootah Group to develop and implement a number of projects in the region which has an outstanding potential for innovation and remarkable relevance to the market.

"The partnership between S.S. Lootah Group & Fraunhofer and the launch of a coordination centre serving the UAE and the Middle East region in February this year has encouraged us to further explore the great potential of talent and development in the region" said Dr. Fuchs.

The formed alliance between S.S. Lootah Group and Fraunhofer aims to serve the ever growing development needs with sustainable projects that benefit people, the economy and future generations. Encouraging the business sector in the UAE and the region to take confident steps towards a true knowledge economy that brings value to people the business and industry in general requires more collaboration though among private businesses, industry and the education system.

WAITRO, an independent, non-governmental and not-for-profit association established in 1970 to promote and encourage co-operation among industrial and technological research and development organizations represents a good example of worldwide collaboration and activities that aim to encourage and promote networking, technology transfer and knowledge sharing.
