- PRESS RELEASE
Continuing its reputation as a venue for world-class international tournaments, the Jebel Ali Golf Resort & Spa announced it will play host to the 2007 edition of the Duke of Edinburgh Cup qualifying round in Dubai.
This renowned charity golf tournament raises significant funds for good causes each year and is held under the patronage of HRH Prince Philip, The Duke of Edinburgh. HH Sheikh Ahmed Bin Saeed Al Maktoum (President Civil Aviation Chairman & CEO of Emirates Group) is the official patron of the qualifying tournament in Dubai.
The individual stableford tournament will take place on Wednesday 6th December at the Resort Course of the Jebel Ali Golf Resort & Spa, a member of 'The Leading Hotels of the World'. Main Sponsor Acuma Wealth Management has also pledged significant support to this edition of the Duke of Edinburgh Cup.
In addition to raising funds, players will also be competing for a wide range of prizes which will be awarded at the post-tournament gala dinner and charity auction at the Resort. The leading man and lady qualifier will each receive a Duke of Edinburgh Trophy in addition to flights and accommodation for 4 nights in London to compete in the world finals at the Royal Household Golf Course and gala dinner at Windsor Castle in late 2007.
"We are delighted to be the official host of this prestigious tournament," said Mark Bettsworth, General Manager of the Jebel Ali Golf Resort & Spa. "This is a distinctive opportunity to further our commitment to charitable causes locally and the format will make it a memorable experience for the golfers who have entered. Our beautiful Resort Course is well suited for an event of this calibre and I have no doubt everyone will have an enjoyable day, whilst giving a substantial donation to charity."
Bettsworth confirmed the event is well on its way to raising significant funds for local children's charities: "We have already received tremendous support from our very loyal sponsors, many of whom have been involved in previous years' qualifiers and at this time I am happy to announce that we will raise a minimum of AED 250,000."
