That was the message Intel brought to the World Economic Forum (WEF) executive board meeting held in Cairo early this week. WEF Davos board members Dr. Martina Roth, Intel EMEA's Education Director and Khaled Elamrawi, Intel's General Manager for Egypt, Levant and North Africa updated fellow WEF board executives on Intel's initiatives that have so far helped to benefit thousands of Egyptian citizens.
The Egyptian Education Initiative, launched during WEF at Sharm El Sheikh in May 2006, has seen tremendous success and accomplishments to date, transforming the face of education in the country. A long-time proponent of advancing education, Intel is committed to helping Egypt develop 21st.centry skills and provide access to technology by bringing science and technology to every level of education. Through its Intel® Teach Programs, Intel collaborates closely with Egypt's national and local education departments, institutions and industry partners to effectively integrate the latest tools and techniques into the classroom in order to equip teachers and students with skills required for success in the knowledge economy.
Under the umbrella of its Intel Digital Transformation Initiative for the Middle East and the company's global World Ahead Program, Intel has introduced many successful education programs in Egypt to enhance the learning and teaching environment, improve computer literacy and encourage interest in science and technology. Examples include Intel® Teach Program, Intel® Learn Program and the Intel International Science and Engineering Fair (ISEF). Intel also works closely with Egyptian universities and academia to advance university curricula and research through its Intel Higher Education program.
'Egypt's focus on encouraging science and technology development and the adoption of leading-edge technologies has allowed its IT industry to evolve,' Dr. Martina Roth said. 'We applaud Egypt's successful collaborative efforts to advance its IT industry and global competitiveness, and create a wealth of knowledge and talent that will drive many of the world's future innovations.'
The WEF Executive Board also took time to recognize the achievements of a number of people who had embraced the Intel initiatives and in turn, transformed their lives. The awards, jointly recognized by the government and Intel, went to teachers, school principals, training management
Before the Egypt Education Initiative was launched by the government at World Economic Forum Sharm El Sheikh 2006, Intel® Teach Program in Egypt had seen over 25,000 teachers trained between 2004 and 2006 to develop skills that enable them teach their students the value of information and communication technology, preparing them for a digital future.
'The implementation of Intel® Teach Program has greatly promoted the effective use of advanced information technology and the reform of education and teaching; it also helps to enhance the teaching quality and promotes the professional development of Egyptian teachers,' said Khaled Elamrawi.
Collaborating with both Egypt's Ministry of Education & MCIT to enhance its efforts, Intel over the next three years will expand its Intel® Teach Program, doubling both the number of teachers trained to 650k teachers and the number of students trained through its Intel Learn Program. In addition, Intel will continue to encourage the interest in science and technology of most of the Egyptian students (grade 2nd. Prep till 3rd. sec) each year through the Intel International Science and Engineering Fair.
