Debut appearance for top holding company at GITEX

Dubai World is all set to make its presence felt in a major manner at the Gulf Information Technology Exhibition (GITEX) 2006 commencing Saturday. This year's show will see the launch of several new initiatives and projects by Dubai World companies.
Mahmood Al Bastaki, Chief Information Officer, Dubai World Corporate Services, said GITEX would be an opportune time to showcase Dubai World's Adoptions of Technology through out its entire group entities.
"Our participation at GITEX is driven by the vision set forth by our Chairman, Sultan Ahmed bin Sulayem, and his strong desire to showcase the diverse portfolios present within Dubai World, such as real estate, e-commerce, port managment and free zone operations. It is an ideal opportunity for our valued customers to know more about Dubai World as a whole, as well as about our individual business units in great detail," he said.
Omar Hijazi, CEO, Tejari, said, "At GITEX we look forward to interacting with our customers and partners from across the region, and to demonstrate the power of ecommerce to them. Many of the new services we plan to launch were developed through consultation with our customers and partners, and the customer is always central to what we do."
Currently operating in eight countries namely UAE, Jordan, Kuwait, Oman, Iraq, Lebanon, KSA, and Pakistan, Tejari provides a comprehensive trading platform for more than 70,000 member companies, with a total trading volume exceeding US$ 3 Billion. This is the sixth year that Tejari is participating at GITEX and its first as a part of the Dubai World group.
ITC (Information Technology Center), which is participating for the first time at GITEX, will also be announcing new initiatives. ITC has also been responsible for the technological infrastructure and access for IT based technology for the Dubai World stand. The company will be featuring various new initiatives and releases at the five day event this year.
Chris Turner, Commercial Director of ITC, said: "ITC will be announcing major initiatives with Microsoft, Hewlett Packard and Cisco amongst others during the course of the show, with all the details being divulged at GITEX" .
He added that the biggest release during GITEX would be the launch of the "new look" Dubai Trade Portal ( www.dubaitrade.ae ) as well as the announcement on the implementation of the latest Oracle software releases."
The Dubai World Stand, with a floor space of around 200 sq m. is among the largest at GITEX and is located in Sheikh Rashid Hall of the venue.
