- PRESS RELEASE
Extending its 'Reach' theme to include all segments of society, Emirates Telecommunications Corporation, Etisalat, announced today the launch of innovative services that are tailored-made for individuals with hearing difficulties.
People with hearing difficulties can now reach anyone, connect and communicate through new services such as video conferencing, TeleTypewriter Device (TTD)/Telecommunications Device for Deaf (TDD), Fixed SMS services, BlackBerry services, the *122# service, and an automated Directory Inquiry Service (ADIS), which are being showcased at the Etisalat stand in the Zabeel Hall.
Deaf Interpreter Service (DIS) provides video conferencing with a deaf interpreter working as a translator. This solution, using sign language through video calls, is exceptionally effective at hospitals and courts and helps initiate a call from a deaf caller to a second person via video conferencing using an SMS feature during the call, enabling participants to converse using sign language.
The TTD/TDD, which are connected to the telephone lines, enables users to communicate through text messages instead of speaking. These devices, with a keyboard and a small screen, are practical, easy to use and inexpensive.
Fixed SMS-services permits users to communicate via text messages to another fixed lines or mobiles. Users can also receive incoming calls as text messages. This service allows the deaf to summon emergency aid, and order deliveries. Users need to have a special fixed line telephone, preferably with a keyboard and a screen to type and read messages.
In addition to all of this, those with hearing difficulties can access Etisalat services through the online facilities, through ADIS and through SMS.
To view and experience these services, visit the Etisalat stand at Zabeel Hall, Dubai World Trade Centre.
