Sheikh Mohammed visits first-ever Dubai World stand at GITEX

The inaugural participation of Dubai World at GITEX 2006 attracted a record number of visitors with Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, UAE Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai touring the uniquely positioned stand at the Sheikh Rashid Hall in the trade centre.

He stopped by the Dubai Customs stand and watched parts of a documentary on Dubai Customs. H.H Sheikh Mohammed also stopped at Tejari stand and spoke to a number of officials representing individual business companies of Dubai World, and enquired about the on-going developments of each business unit including future projects in the pipeline.

Mahmood Al Bastaki, Chief Information Officer, Dubai World Corporate Services, accompanied Sheikh Mohammed on his tour of Dubai World stall and briefed him of the various developments and initiatives being launched at GITEX this year including the revamping of an e-portal involving the e-services of the major business units of Dubai World such as DP World Jafza, DMCC and Dubai Customs.

"The Dubai Trade banner is seeking to expand further on its export and import business and we are presently coming up with a new portal which would enhance the e-services offered by DP World Jafza, DMCC and Dubai Customs. His Highness Sheikh Mohammed was highly interested in this new initiative and we briefed him on this particular development as well as other future projects that we are currently working on," said Mr. Al Bastaki.

A number of prominent names in Dubai World Group entities, such as Nakheel, DP World, Jafza, Limitless, Istithmar, Dubai Customs, Information Technology Center, Dubai Multi Commodities Center, Dubai Customs World and Tejari, are participating under the Dubai World's banner this year and the stand is expected to attract a large number of regional and international visitors over the next few days.

The details of Simsari.com, a new e-portal developed and launched by Tejari through which property in Dubai can be purchased online were also provided to Sheikh Mohammed during the tour.

"We were very pleased to inform His Highness about the groundbreaking Simsari.com initiative, an online portal launched by Tejari, through which customers can purchase properties easily online. Involving merely three steps, customers can search for available property developments online, select their choices, make the payment and get their finance cleared all through this one-stop e-service. We are extremely happy that Sheikh Mohammed visited us at the Dubai World stand today, the day Simsari.com was launched and are quite encouraged by this gesture. Adel Al Sherawi, CEO of Tamweel has supported this project significantly," said Omar Hijazi, CEO, Tejari.

The Dubai World Stand, with a floor space of around 200 sq m. is among the largest at GITEX and is located in Sheikh Rashid Hall of the venue.
