LG bursts into Gitex 2002 with brand new stand design
- United Arab Emirates: Monday, September 09 - 2002 at 12:56
- PRESS RELEASE
Global and regional digital leader LG Electronics has unveiled a brand-new stand design for Gitex 2002, the information technology exhibition which will be held at the Dubai World Trade Centre from October 13-17.
LG technology going on display includes Flatron screen PDPs, LCD multi-media monitors, LCD projectors and mobile phones.
LCD technology will be in prime focus when LG showcases its newly upgraded monitor range. "We believe the regional market will witness a noticeable shift towards LCD by the beginning of next year," said Mr P.C. Choi, Managing Director, LG Electronics Gulf, FZE. "Worldwide 12% of all monitors sold are LCD, whereas in this region, currently only 3% of monitor turnover is LCD. There's a lot of ground to make up and with the technology becoming more stabilised in price, we envisage a greater trend towards it."
LG has launched its new monitor range to consolidate its regional market-leading share and build further brand awareness.
"Our line-up now includes four new models from the multi-award winning Flatron LCD monitor range in 15 inch, 17 inch and 18 inch screen sizes, which makes it the widest range in terms of choice and design options," said Choi.
Also on show will be three new optical storage devices launched into the region - the GCC-4320B Combo Drive, the GCE-8480B CD-RW and the GNA 4020B DVD-Rom Super Multi.
"Bringing new models quickly to market has helped us retain our regional leading-edge in this important sector," said Choi.
In the first half of this year, LG's sales of optical storage devices throughout the Middle East and Africa rose a whopping 69% to deliver turnover of US $22 million.
And being showcased at Gitex is a planned new addition to LG Electronic's regional mobile phone offering - a coloured screen model.
"As part of our strategy of becoming a key regional GSM player, we plan to consistently introduce innovative products for the top-end of the market," said Choi.
LG entered the UAE and lower Gulf GSM markets earlier this year with two cutting-edge products - the LG-600 and LG510W. This summer it boosted its regional GSM offering with the slim and compact 'bar-type,' dual-band B1200.
LG Electronics is targeting a million mobile phone sales throughout the Middle East and Africa by the end of next year.
And, making a highly anticipated return to Gitex is the LG Internet Digital DIOS Refrigerator - the world's first Internet fridge - which could go on sale in the Middle East within two years.
"Although not available in the region as yet, the DIOS provides Gitex visitors with an engaging insight into digital lifestyles of the future," said Choi.
LG says Gitex is a key annual marketing platform for it to showcase its award-winning digital technology.
"LG is a leading I.T. player on both the global and regional scene," said Choi. "We convincingly lead the regional market in monitor and optical storage device sales and are making headway in the telecoms sector. It is essential then that our brand is present at Gitex, which is now the world's third largest I.T. exhibition.
"Gitex gives us the opportunity to showcase our technology to a highly receptive I.T. audience, to educate the market on what we have to offer and what the future might hold, while providing us with a prominent launch platform for new products."
