AED 65,000 raised in stamps auction at 19th Asian Stamp Exhibition

The 19th Asian International Stamp Exhibition came to a successful close yesterday (17 November) at the Dubai Exhibition Hall Airport Expo Dubai with a gala prize distribution ceremony for outstanding stamp collectors, which was attended by Surajit Gongvatana, Federation of Inter-Asian Philatelic (FIAP) Co-ordinator.

Featuring over 600 stands, the exhibition was organized by Emirates Post and the Federation of Inter-Asian Philatelic (FIAP), in association with the Emirates Philatelic Association.

The event, which saw the participation of stamp collectors from over 30 Asian, Pacific and South African countries, honoured winners in eight categories including: the large gold, gold, large vermeil, vermeil, large silver, silver, silver bronze and bronze medals. In addition, the Asian Stamp Exhibition recognised the Best International Display, the Best Display (UAE), the Best GCC Display and the Best Philatelic Collection.

Thailand's Charmachi Karmasuta was awarded the 'Large Gold Medal', receiving 95 out of 100 points for his collection featuring the 'Development on the Early Post Offices in Siam (1880-1909)'.

UAE national Mohammad Ahmad Al Murr received a gold medal, gaining 90 points for his collection on the 'Postal History of Muscat (1868-1948)'. Al Murr was also honored with the award for 'Best Exhibit' in the UAE category.

Wi'am Ghanem, Director of Human Resources Department at Emirates Post, represented HE Abdullah Al Daboos, Director General of the Emirates Post at the gala ceremony. She said: 'Emirates Post is taking steps to popularize stamp collection as a hobby in the region, through events like the Asian Stamp Exhibition and the GCC Stamp Exhibition.'

A collection of 205 heritage and history stamps were auctioned on the second day, of which 145 were sold for a total of AED 65,000.

Ghanem added: 'As part of our goal to further boost this hobby, Emirates Post and the Emirates Philatelic Association worked hard to ensure the success of the exhibition. This exhibition once again demonstrates Dubai's capability to host world class events.'

The Asian Stamp Exhibition featured thematic stands on various subjects. It also offered a unique chance for beginners to display their stamp collections on individual and three-stand bases.

The 12th GCC Exhibition that was organized alongside the Asian Stamp exhibition drew the participation of six Gulf countries.
