With the new modification, Compliance Division coordinators can access, check and update business licences and transactions from outside the office premises.

The Compliance Division staff carrying the device, named by DED as 'Maydani', can update data and procedures regarding business registrations and transactions from anywhere outside the office. They do not have to input the same details on to the office system on returning and can thus save time and effort. The modified programme on the device is currently connected directly to DED's internal system.

'Maydani' can also be used to monitor and issue fines to errant companies as well as evaluate the status of licences and other transactions. It helps the Compliance Division staff to perform business licence enquiries more efficiently without having to call the Customer Service Centre, when they are out on duty.

'The DED believes in the concept of continuous improvement in performance and is on the lookout to enhance and upgrade its systems in order to sustain and develop its image as a customer-oriented department. Improvements, however, don't happen by strategy alone and co-ordinated effort is needed, which was demonstrated by our IT team to whom we are thankful,'

said Mr. Mohamed Hilal Al Muroushedi, Director of Compliance Division at DED.

'The Department of Economic Development is proud to have updated the programme on the electronic device. The efforts put by the IT team in co-ordination with the Compliance Division staff in modifying the programme have made it easy for co-ordinators at the Compliance Division to update data swiftly,' said Mr. Sultan Ali Lootah, Head of the IT Division at DED. 'It also helps us save considerable time and effort.'

He added: 'The development of the IT programme on the device shows DED's commitment towards enhancing service efficiency for customers. We encourage such innovative initiatives, which eventually contribute to boosting the DED's success and development.'
