Dubai Women's College holds its 2nd Radiography Conference
- United Arab Emirates: Monday, November 20 - 2006 at 10:28
- PRESS RELEASE
Medical Imaging students and faculty of the Health Sciences at Dubai Women's College (DWC) held on November 11 its 2nd Connecting with Tomorrow Radiographic Conference.
The Conference, organized by the DWC Health Sciences Medical Imaging Department, provided the opportunity for many skilled radiographers in the UAE who use state-of-the art imaging equipment to showcase local clinical imaging innovations amongst their peers.
Of particular interest was the new fully digital Trauma X-ray Unit at Rashid Hospital which uses low-dose high-speed X-ray scanning equipment to image patients from head to toe in only 13seconds which leads to rapid diagnosis with minimal disruption to the patient. This is the first scanner of its kind in the Middle East, and there are less then ten in existence globally.
Delegates also enjoyed hearing of advances in the use of 64slice CT, both in cardiac and trauma imaging where rapidly obtained high quality images can be reconstructed to provide extra detailed information.
The Conference attracted more than 180 local radiographers and medical imaging professionals who were addressed by John O'Connell of GE Healthcare on advances in Multi-slice CT Imaging and Georage Kane of Kodak on IT in Medical Imaging. The delegates were also addressed by Noora Al Mutawa, a DWC graduate, on Statscan: a new technology in trauma imaging.
The event was arranged by the 3rd year High Diploma Medical Imaging students as a way of thanking the many radiographers who continue to play an important role in students' clinical training. Students acted as MC's for the event and managed the whole day including registration and food arrangements. The conference was awarded 5 hours of Continued Medical Education (CME) by the Department of Health and Medical Services.
