The German auto-maker will be backing the Inter-college public speaking competition, which is set to feature participation from over 30 universities in the GCC area, on November 22 at the Knowledge Village in Dubai.

The event, the brainchild of the EEG, will feature guest speakers on hot topics such as whether our continual building in the desert is a sustainable venture; the effect of Avian Flu Epidemic on wildlife and biodiversity; the effectiveness of media as a tool for environmental awareness; and the controversial ideas surrounding the viability of nuclear energy as a power source.

Among global cultures, the people of the Middle East exhibit one of the strongest affinities with their unrelenting environment, having learned to harness the desert's unforgiving conditions and build a deep respect for their surroundings. Similarly, as Volkswagen Middle East continues its steady way up in the regional automotive industry, the firm brings with it a culture of revering the environment.

This is just the latest of a host of commitments the Volkswagen brand has made in the past months. Most recently the company was lauded for their environmental friendliness on an international level, being ranked Number 1 in an environmental study in the US by the world-renowned market research firm J.D. Power. And with not one but three models among the top 30 lowest emission gasoline-powered and hybrid vehicles, Volkswagen was the most environment-conscious car manufacturer of the 37 automotive brands that were represented in the 'Alternative Powertrain Study'.

So with this new EEG sponsorship campaign, the Volkswagen Middle East office expresses the carmaker's same international eco-friendly personality that it has established in other parts of the world very successfully already.
