The ceremony included the signing of a contract of services between the students and DWC.

Responding to an initiative by Dr. Kay Dahya, Chair of Health Sciences Department, twelve Information Administration (IA) students began teaching duties in Semester 1 2005-2006 teaching the Comp150 (Introductory Computing) course to Health Science students.

The program expanded this year with 20 IA students participating in teaching more than 50 Health Sciences students distributed into 3 sections. Programs taught include Excel, Access, Frontpage, Dreamweaver and other office software. The IA students get credit for teaching IT which is one of the courses in their diploma.

Supervised by an IT faculty mentor, the teaching group are responsible for creating the entire learning program for their students including needs analysis, material presentation, monitoring of student learning, taking attendance, assessment and reporting on assessment.

'I have observed the IA students on several occasions and I am delighted by their motivation; commitment and the organization. Students enjoy their peers teaching them and show respect to the IA student teachers. Quality of interaction and training is highly evident,' noted Dr. Dahya.

'This program is unique since it focuses on enhancing students professional communication skills and help them experience real situations,' added Mark Floden, IT faculty member.

The program provides an excellent learning opportunity for IA students as they learn how to teach IT related subjects. Students at the learning end responded positively to the program as they 'could communicate better with our instructors who themselves are students and have been through the same learning experience we are going through at this moment,' said Eman, (Year 1 health Science).

This program is organized through the Training Center at DWC which is managed by DWC student Eman Falasi. 'The IA courses in year 2 have prepared us well to run the Training Center in Year 3. Last year, we had successfully trained a group of Librarians from the Ministry of Education in the use of Moviemaker. This year, we have been asked to train staff at Nad Al Hamr School. This experience has increased our confidence, ability to teach and employability,' said Falasi.
