- United Arab Emirates: Saturday, November 25 - 2006 at 16:08
- PRESS RELEASE
With the conclusion of GITEX Computer Shopper, initial figures show that Sony Gulf, through its UAE distributor, Jumbo Electronics has wrapped up its participation at the trade exhibition with over 35% growth in sales during GITEX as compared to last year.
Highlights such as the Middle East preview of PlayStation 3, the Blu-Ray Disc player and the VAIO L series attracted many enquiries.
Mr. Masaru Tamagawa, Managing Director, Sony Gulf said, "Sony is indeed shaping up the future of entertainment through High Definition. Our investments in GITEX have yielded multiple level of exposure for Sony's HD products in the consumer and professional categories."
"The sales at the GITEX Computer Shopper clearly indicate many new trends. Convergence of IT and entertainment products is now fully established. Contrary to GITEX having the reputation of a firm IT exhibition, we sold several units of BRAVIA LCD flat panels. In fact, our GITEX SHOPPER sales for Sony products crossed last years' total figure within the first three days of the exhibition," added Probir Mukherjee, Vice-President, Sony Division in Jumbo Electronics, the exclusive distributor of Sony products in the UAE.
Jumbo Electronics recorded strong sales growth in Cyber-shot Digital Still Cameras, which was over 60% as compared to last year. Sales of Sony's data projectors grew by 25% at GITEX, on the back of demand from educational institutions and large enterprises. With an even more attractive range of price points, more than twice the numbers of VAIO laptops were sold this year as compared to last
Moreover, this year, the hot favourites were the new range of Cyber-Shot cameras, the VAIO SZ and TX series, the MP3 Walkman series.
