The event was hosted by Asia's most popular quiz host, Derek O'Brien and was held at The Auditorium, Crowne Plaza Hotel on Sheikh Zayed Road at 4:30pm.

'Seeing is Believing' is Standard Chartered's unique global community investment initiative which aims to raise US$6 million and restore the sight of one million people by World Sight Day in October 2007.

'Our inaugural 'Seeing is Believing' Business Quiz raised enough funds to restore the sight of 2,000 people last year,' said David Koay, Head of Client Relationships, Standard Chartered Bank, 'This year we took things even further in the name of a good cause and raised US$ 85,000, restoring sight to 2,830 people across the world.'

A number of valued Standard Chartered clients and partners donated prizes for the 'Seeing is Believing' Business quiz night, with 44 teams participating in an evening of games and entertainment.

In 2005 Standard Chartered UAE raised a total of US$580,000 as part of the Group target of US$3 million and was the second largest fund-raising country within the Group. Funds were raised through a variety of internal events and a special dedicated 3-kilometre run in the Dubai Marathon. Owen Belman, Head of Consumer Banking, personally raised AED 40,000 in his sponsored run in the Dubai Marathon in 2006.

'Our people have become passionately committed to the 'Seeing is Believing' cause since the initiative was launched, and we pride ourselves at Standard Chartered in taking every opportunity to raise awareness for this programme - both in the corporate world and at a personal level,' continued Koay.

'Through our recent Business Quiz event, the generosity of Dubai business people has helped us further along the way of achieving our global target of restoring sight to a million people.' he concluded.
