Oman Air attends Arab Air Carriers Organization 39th annual meeting

Oman Air participated in the 39th Annual General Meeting held in Kuwait from 21-23 November, 2006, under the patronage of H.H. Sheikh Nasser Al Mohammed Al Ahmed Al Sabah, the Prime Minister of Kuwait and presided by Sheikh Talal Mubarak Abdulla Al-Ahmed Al Sabah, AACO President and Managing Director of Kuwait Airways.

Oman's National Carrier was represented by a high level delegation comprising of Mr. Ziad bin Karim Al Haremi, Oman Air's CEO, Mr. Edward Grauvogl, Divisional Manger Planning & Acting Divisional Manager Commercial, and Mr. Abdulrazaq Alraisi, Senior Manager Sales.

Commenting on the occasion, Mr. Ziad Al Haremi, stated that the aviation industry is recording a sturdy growth in contrast with other industries in the world therefore, our strategies and plans should synchronize with this astonishing progress which is experienced within this very important field. We are aiming towards promoting our services to exceed our valued customer's anticipations. The Middle East is considered as prime importance to the world transport market, which is witnessing progressive developments. He also said, this meeting hosted by Kuwait airways, was attended by Chief Executive Officers and representatives of 40 companies from aircraft and engine manufacturers to IT solutions, Global Distribution providers, ground handling service providers, aviation industry consultants with the participation of international & regional organizations and transport experts. Mr. Giovanni Bisignani IATA's Director General who also attended the meeting addressed the forum followed by discussions which focused on issues related to the privatization of airlines, emerging of low cost airlines as well as opportunities created by Indian Chinese emerging markets.

Mr. Al Haremi added that the agenda included many reports, work papers and forums to discuss various initiatives and state-of-the-art systems which play an important role in the growth and development witnessed by the aviation industry and the member airlines despite the present challenges arising in the region in addition to the main obstacles confronting Arab Airlines.

In his report, Mr. Abdulwahab Teffaha, AACO Secretary General reiterated that the Arab Air Transport Industry has witnessed 400% growth during the past quarter of a century in spite of the strong competition and unstable environment.

On this occasion, Oman Air's Corporate Communication & Media Department commented that the Arab Air Carriers Organization (AACO) is the regional airline alliance of Arab Airlines and cooperates widely with the International Air Transport Association (IATA) and International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO). Since its establishment in 1965 by Arab League, AACO has undertaken many initiatives with the aim of promoting cooperation, quality and safety standards among the Arab Airlines. Furthermore, it facilitates in stimulating many projects among its 23 Arab Airline members. AACO members have convened closed sessions during the General Assembly to discuss and decide upon several strategies and administrative topics, related to the joint efforts amongst AACO to deal with the rigid environment affecting airline operations.

It is worth mentioning that AACO General Assembly meeting is held annually and hosted by one of the AACO members. Oman Air had hosted the 36th General Assembly meeting in the year 2002. AACO has its headquarters based in Beirut, Lebanon while AACO regional training center is based in Amman, Jordan.
