The revolutionary "disk as tape" technology developed by Imation Corp (NYSE: IMN), a worldwide leader in data storage, has been named the Tekne Award "Innovation" winner at the Oct. 26, 2006 Tekne Awards in Minneapolis, Minn.

The Minnesota High Tech Association (MHTA) and Minnesota Technology, Inc. (MTI), in partnership with LifeScience Alley, recognized companies and individuals who have shown superior innovation, development, education, commercialization and management of technology.

"Our Ulysses technology, the first in the world combining the benefits of hard disk storage with tape cartridge technology, is one example of how Imation is leading the way in inventing new technologies to help businesses more effectively manage their expanding data storage requirements," said Bruce Henderson, chairman and chief executive officer, Imation.

"I am delighted that this ground-breaking technology, and our talented Imation employees who conceived and brought the Ulysses product to market, have been recognized with a 2006 Tekne Award."

"As global computing capacity expands with every server, laptop, consumer device and enterprise process, the amount of data created every day has become a 'digital tsunami," said Riyaz Abdulla, Regional Sales & Marketing Manager, Imation for Middle East and East Africa (MEEA). About Ulysses Technology:
When initially announced in October 2005, Imation's Ulysses technology became the world's first disk-enhanced removable media cartridge. Developed with the data storage needs of enterprise users in mind, Imation's Ulysses technology is a SATA 2.5-inch disk drive in an industry-standard tape cartridge. Used with a tape drive emulator, this disk-enhanced removable media accelerates backup and restore performance and resides within a tape library. The disk-to-disk solution fits in any standard tape drive bay and is recognized by the host, backup software and storage management software as a standard tape drive.
Imation's Ulysses technology provides the benefits of both tape and disk, delivering the performance of hard disk while allowing the enterprise user to leverage their investment in their existing tape library infrastructure. A high-capacity product, the Ulysses technology is removable and portable, and offers a data storage solution that users can afford - addressing the needs of users looking for a disk-to-disk-to-tape solution to improve restore time without having to adopt a complex new system or invest in hardware or software modifications. Imation's Ulysses technology recently passed stringent environmental tests by Sercel, a major seismic acquisition company, and is now generally available.
