A special networking event organised on Sunday evening on the sidelines of the exhibition was attended by senior personnel of the exhibiting companies and key personnel and decision makers from the construction industry, contracting companies, traders, distributors, stockists of construction machinery and equipment, service providers including transport companies, consultants, renting and leasing agencies, and Public administration and building authorities from across the MENA (Middle East and North Africa) region.

All the 350 guests at the event were special invitees. The participants, besides exploring business potential and finalising deals, discussed crucial issues concerning the regional construction industry.

Among those who attended the gathering were Mr. Abdul Qader A. Mohamed, President of Al Wasit Machinery Trading EST. The company is the sole distributor of Hyundai Heavy Machinery in the UAE and Oman. It also offers a wide range of equipment for earthmoving, road construction, concrete and asphalt plants, material handling, and transportation.

Conmex, though just in the first edition, has received overwhelming response from the regional construction sector. Till November 26, 2006, the event had attracted over 3,800 trade visitors, from 54 countries including the MENA (Middle East and North Africa) region.

A significant number of the exhibitors reported on the second day of the show that they had received confirmed orders from buyers. Others reported receiving serious queries and leads that had the potential to translate in to confirmed deals at a later stage. Several reported sale of machinery and equipment that was on display.

Among the major sales conducted at the Conmex were that of a Terex Pegson Crusher costing over Dhs. 2.5 million by Genavco and two concrete pumps each costing Dhs. 1.7 million by Al Bakhit Construction Equipment.

Major highlights of the first two days of Conmex included the seminars on Advanced Crushing Technology by Mr. Andrew Daikin from Terex Pegson, UK, and Soil Stabilization and Road Recycling by Mr. Norbert Beil of the Wirtgen Group, Germany.
