H.E. Darwish Ahmad Al Zaraouni, Director General of EIDA noted that EIDA's participation at the event was in line with the company's strategy to enhance relations with its stakeholders locally and internationally. "It is truly important to use the investment opportunities open to us in the fields of information security and utilize them to enhance the performance and the services of different governmental departments," he said.

Al Zaraouni also said that EIDA participated at the event to showcase the UAE's new Population Register and ID card program and to brief visitors about the advanced technologies used. Al Zaraouni had praise for the event as it provides an ideal platform for specialized British companies in the information security systems sector to interact with the UAE organizations and companies developing this sector from the UAE.

Al Zaraouni praised the role of the UAE government in supporting the important population register and national ID Projects. "This mirrors the vision and expectations that our leadership under, H.H. Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE and H.H. Sheikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai have in the project," he said.

Al Zaraouni added that EIDA is in the process of establishing 14 registration centers in various parts of the country to facilitate the start of registration procedures for individuals by the beginning of 2007.

EIDA has been given responsibility for introducing a modern Population Register and ID Card system, which will further the country's efforts towards the provision of a secure environment for citizens and expatriate residents of the UAE. It is designed to keep personal identities secure from fraudulent or unauthorized use, support government planning services, enhance economic growth and place the UAE in the front ranks of the information technology age.
