- United Arab Emirates: Saturday, December 02 - 2006 at 16:34
- PRESS RELEASE
Dubai Women's College hosted yesterday a workshop titled "Multiple Intelligence thinking and its uses in the language classroom" presented by world-renowned speaker Mario Rinvolucri.
Organized by the Bachelor of Education program at DWC, and in conjunction with Magrudy's Educational Resource Center in Dubai, the session was attended by the College Director, Dr. Howard Reed, deans of the colleges, a few dozen DWC teachers, DWC Bachelor of Education students, English Zone Supervisors from the Ministry of Education and teachers from local schools.
Mr. Rinvolucri explained the theory of Multiple Intelligences developed by Howard Gardner in 1983 and then engaged the audience in a series of practical exercises that, while teaching or practicing language, allowed for the use of movement, visualization, free interpersonal communication, and rhythm and music that language creates.
Mr. Rinvolucri explained how different, often neglected strengths language learners have, can be utilized to enhance the classroom experience and bring about great results and positive attitudes to learning. He encouraged his audience to pay attention to "the different physiological changes that take place once an individual is asked to practice different kinds of intelligence."
The workshop was highly appraised among attendees who requested that Mr. Rinvolucri provide them with more workshops in the near future.
"The workshop was extremely beneficial to all who attended and contributed significantly to enhancing our faculty's skills and knowledge in how to educate our students each depending on a student's individual intelligences that she might possess," said Dr. Howard Reed, Senior Director of Higher Colleges of Technology, and Director of DWC.
