QN signs a contract for construction of 3 container vessels

Qatar Navigation has signed a contract with the South Korean Company Daesun for the construction of 3 state of the art container vessels for a total cost of US$71.7 million.
The contract was signed during Mr. Khalifa Saqr Al-Hitmi visit to Busan Shipyard in South Korea. The three vessels will be acquitted in order to meet the increase in container traffic at Qatari ports, and will ensure that QN maintains its supremacy as the country largest local carrier.
These vessels will be received in May 2009 and will represent a significant addition to QN fleet where these vessels will have a capacity of around 1,000 TEUs each. The dimensions of these vessels, will have length and width of 144.5&22.6 meters respectively with a maximum speed of 18 knots which makes these vessels the largest and fastest in QN fleet.
