The Department of Health and Medical Services (DoHMS) and Bayer Healthcare Middle East concluded a medical symposium titled, "Successful Pregnancy and Healthy Child Birth," which was attended by more than 200 maternity care doctors from across the Gulf.
Dr. Awatif Al Bahr, President of the UAE Obstetrics and Gynecology Society said, "Many parents experience joy and excitement about having a baby. This feeling often turns to anxiety that something could go wrong. Adding some additional nutritional elements to a pregnant woman's diet can reduce the risk of serious childbirth abnormalities to almost zero. It can also significantly reduce the risk of many other abnormalities at the time of birth."
"A healthy and full-term baby must be the highest priority for obstetricians and future mothers alike during pregnancy, and all concerned want to do their best for the child," Added Dr. Al Bahr.
The meeting provided information on the introduction of a new once daily vitamin and mineral supplement for pregnant women, which has been clinically proven with over one million successful pregnancies, to reduce the risk of neural tube defects such as spina bifida. Taken with a healthy diet, Elevit contains the multivitamins and minerals that mothers require during pregnancy.
"Bayer Health care, as a global leader in the field of woman health care, is offering its expertise in support of such awareness programs," said Dr. Gamal Mikhail, Senior Representative of Bayer Health Care in the Middle East. "Bayer had recently launched a multivitamin especially designed for pregnancy and nursing mothers in the UAE, which bridges a major nutritional gap in this particular time of woman's life," he added.
Mrs. Wafaa Ayesh, Head of clinical Nutrition Department, Rashid Hospital comments "Recent medical publications demonstrate the importance of having the correct vitamin and mineral balance for a healthy pregnancy, successful childbirth and a healthy child. A few milligrams of micronutrients at conception and during pregnancy are vital for the health of the baby."
