His Excellency Dr. Omar Bin Sulaiman, Governor of the DIFC, said: "We are honoured to welcome Prime Minister Nazif to the Dubai International Financial Centre. An experienced member of government who has served his country in a variety of roles - in both the public sector and academia - his achievements range from introducing major legislation to leading negotiations with the World Trade Organization (WTO) to establishing free Internet connections for all Egyptians. Dr. Nazif is truly a pillar of Egyptian society."
He continued:
"We are especially pleased to welcome Dr. Nazif on a day when an Egyptian-born investment bank, EFG-Hermes, formally inaugurates its offices at the DIFC. This further highlights the importance of strong economic ties between Egypt and the UAE, as well as between Egypt and Dubai in particular. At the DIFC, we see clearly the importance of further strengthening links between our financial centre and Egypt, the Arab world's most populous nation and one of its most dynamic economies."
Yasser El Mallawany, Chairman and Chief Executive of EFG-Hermes added: "EFG-Hermes' operations within the DIFC are a centrepiece of our regional presence, and we welcome the visit of Dr. Ahmed Nasif to show support for a home-grown brand in regional markets, as well as for the opportunities the DIFC has presented for the region".
The DIFC is the region's leading international financial centre, and has attracted firms from both around the world and across the region, including the Gulf, Levant and North Africa. The leadership of the DIFC, under the direction of Dr. Omar Bin Sulaiman, continues to stress the importance of continually expanding the scale and scope of regional firms at the centre. The visit by the Egyptian Minister came in the context of increasing the presence of Egyptian firms at the DIFC.
