National Air Services awarded first private license to operate domestic flights from Riyadh

National Air Services (NAS), a private Riyadh-based aviation company, announced that it has been awarded the first government license to operate domestic flights from the Saudi capital, Riyadh.
NAS will serve the kingdom's booming domestic aviation market with a newly launched low-cost carrier (LCC), with five aircraft forming its initial fleet. The fleet size is expected to reach 18 aircraft by 2010. The new LCC will cover 22 Saudi destinations during its first year of operations, expanding to 37 domestic routes by the end of 2008.
The Chief Executive Officer of NAS, Taher Agueel, said: "We are honored to have been awarded this license by the General Authority for Civil Aviation, which managed the application process with great efficiency, genuine transparency and the highest level of professionalism. This announcement heralds the beginning of a new era in the Saudi Arabian aviation sector."
He continued: "NAS is committed to providing world-class services to our customers across the kingdom, and we believe that the LLC model is the right match for the young and vibrant Saudi Arabia of today. We will deliver greater choice, superior value and increased convenience for passengers traveling within the kingdom. Today is indeed a landmark date for both the company and the people of Saudi Arabia."
