IBM brings skills for intelligent web portals

  • United Arab Emirates: Thursday, September 26 - 2002 at 11:59
  • PRESS RELEASE

IBM's Software Group, together with its general marketing and services representative for the Gulf, GBM, has completed an extensive workshop for its top regional business partners and customers.

The sessions focused on how to create Web portals that intelligently modify and personalise content to each visitor, helping Middle East businesses create more useful and compelling online sites, which allow information to be shared quickly and effectively with customers and business partners.

Using the latest generation of IBM's WebSphere Portal technology as a platform, the skills and technologies covered are aimed at providing organizations in this region with the same corporate intranet technologies and efficiency-promoting solutions that IBM used to transform itself into a premier e-business. An effective portal enables a single point of access to personalized information, applications, processes and people to help build successful business-to-employee (B2E), business-to-business (B2B) and business-to-consumer (B2C) sites, where users select which applications they view and how they want to view them. Irrelevant content is filtered out, and pertinent content is more quickly locatable.

"E-business is the key to winning in today's ever changing business environment in the Middle East. Portals are a powerful entry point for users to access information systems, but the challenge is to present the information in a way that does not confuse or lose them," said Bashar Kilani, manager of IBM Software Group, Middle East and Pakistan. "We have been working closely with our partners and customers, providing them with training and insights into how to make Web-based portals more effective."
