Amr Moussa to participate in landmark Arab ICT Summit

Amr Moussa, Secretary-General of the Arab League, will participate in the Arab ICT Summit, which opens in Dubai on October 12.
The summit, which will also be attended by His Highness Sheikh Abdulla Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, UAE Minister of Information, is being organised by Dubai Internet City and Emirates Media Inc. This high profile event, the first of its kind, aims to discuss unified Arab efforts in accelerating ICT development in the Arab world.
Dr. Omar Bin Sulaiman, CEO of Dubai Internet City (DIC) said, "ICT is the way forward for the modern Arab World. As a region, we missed out on the Industrial Revolution. We must not let the ICT Revolution pass us by."
The Summit will feature 19 speakers who include ICT officials and experts from Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Jordan, Egypt, Bahrain, Kuwait, Qatar and Syria. They will provide an ICT overview as well as propose practical, real world solutions to the problems confronting the region's ICT industry.
"Officials from all over the Arab World are taking part in this summit with a view to pushing the region forward through the development of ICT. It is imperative we work together politically to ensure the success of this venture," said His Excellency Ahmed Ali Al Blouchi, General Manager of Emirates Media Inc.
Issues to be discussed at the summit include state policies that enhance the ICT revolution, the development of infrastructure, the development of human capital, E-government initiatives and the development of an Arab presence on the Internet.
"The aim of the summit is to upgrade the region's capabilities in the field of ICT, and ultimately to produce a plan of joint Arab action that will accelerate economic, social and cultural growth regionally," said Mr. Ahmad BinByat, Director General, Dubai Technology, Electronic Commerce and Media Free Zone Authority (TECOM).
BinByat concluded, "We are pleased to welcome Microsoft, Cisco and IBM as the summit sponsors as they are companies that share our vision of enabling firms and institutions to realise their potential through the benefits of the information economy."
