This was the first appearance in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) for both the Deutsches Symphonie Orchestra and conductor Kent Nagano.

Kent Nagano is an outstanding conductor of both operatic and concert repertory, and since September 2006 has been the General Music Director of the Bayerische Staatsoper, and Music Director of the Montreal Symphony Orchestra.

"BMW is an avid supporter of cultural activities around the world. Our support extends to art, music, design, and a wide range of other cultural and educational related topics," said Guenther Seemann, Managing Director, BMW Group Middle East.

"Our support of the Deutsches Symphonie Orchestra Berlin during their first visit to the Middle East shows our commitment to supporting the cultural scene in the region. Music transcends all national and linguistic boundaries, and we felt this was an excellent opportunity to share with our customers in Abu Dhabi this memorable experience."

The programme on the evening consisted of Brahms' Piano Concerto No. 1 and, Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov's Scheherazade, with Benedetto Lupo featuring as the piano soloist. A music documentary regarding the Orchestra is also soon to be shown in Arabic on DW-TV featuring Nagano and the Deutsches Symphonie Orchestra.

The series, entitled Kent Nagano conducts the monumental classics, is an outstanding music documentary in more ways than one and has been brought about by the collaboration between Deutsche Welle TV and the DSO. The six-part production presents major works from musical history, along with their creators - six master composers, six symphonies, a top-notch orchestra and its star conductor are the key ingredients comprising an extraordinary palette of classics.
