DED and Dubai Municipality sign agreement to strengthen mutual co-operation

The Dubai Department of Economic Development (DED) and Dubai Municipality (DM) have signed a partnership agreement to work more closely together on socio-economic initiatives that will boost the Dubai economy.
"Through this agreement, we are reiterating our commitment to work together on initiatives that will support the development and progress of Dubai," said Mr Ali Ibrahim. "We will share best practices and experiences, and explore mutually beneficial opportunities, which will enhance the quality of support services offered to investors and customers. This agreement aims at attaining the objectives of both the departments in developing Dubai as the business, trade and tourism hub of the region."
"The vision of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, strengthened Dubai's standing globally as a business hub for the knowledge economy, trade and services. DED and DM too are proud to have contributed to developing Dubai as one of the strongest competitive economies in the world. This new initiative will be the first step in our journey to strengthen transparency in the management of mutual operations and support the overall development of both the departments," he added.
"Dubai has grown impressively in a short span of time. The partnership with DED will contribute in our efforts to shape Dubai as a destination of choice for international investors and multinational corporations. Our enhanced relations with DED will ensure the success socio-economic projects in Dubai. We will use this partnership to explore new fields for growth," said Engineer Hussain Nasser Lootah.
Through the partnership, the two departments will share institutional experiences by forming joint work teams. They will help in avoiding duplication of work. The agreement will lead to joint workshops, seminars and meetings to attain improvement of performance, simplify procedures and further develop the services provided by the two parties.

About Department of Economic Development (DED):
The Department of Economic Development (DED) was established in March 1992, with the objective to organise, regulate and boost trade and industry within the Emirate of Dubai. The DED has moulded its mission of building a futuristic establishment, in accordance with the vision of the Government of Dubai and in the light of globalisation and the requirements of a digital economy. One of its key functions is to encourage local and foreign investments in commercial and industrial projects, and create the appropriate environment for investors.
The DED's other functions comprise a wide range of regulatory activities including the preparation and maintenance of a commercial register and the supervision of all organisations. The DED is responsible for regulating the affairs of commercial agents and brokers and commercial advertising offices, in addition to overseeing and controlling the insurance industry in the Emirate. Examining the participation of the government in the private sector and representing the government in companies where it has a stake, also comes under the purview of the DED.
