Under the directives of Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, His Highness Dr Sheikh Sultan Bin Mohammed Al Qassimi and based on his keenness on developing the Emirate of Sharjah at all levels through adopting the highest international norms for Sharjah to stand among civilized countries and based also on his concern with the subject of environment and his diligent efforts to put an end to pollution and protect the coming generations by rendering the Emirate of Sharjah a city clear of all pollutants.
With these statements, Chief of the Sharjah Emirates Municipalities Council Bureau Board and Chief of the Sharjah City Municipal Council Salem Bin Mohammed Al Owais announced the launch of 'Bee'a' as a limited liability joint stock company between Sharjah Municipality on one hand and JMS Property Development LLC and Tactical Connections Canada on the other.
'Bee'ah' will provide scientific solutions for classifying and sorting out solid waste of all its domestic, industrial, agricultural, medical and electronic types as well as building leftovers with the aim of recycling such waste as a basic step for putting an end to the problem of accumulated waste and eliminating all the elements of pollution resulting from such waste for the sake of conserving the environment and benefiting from waste in many industries.
A waste-recycling factory will be set up in Al Saj'ah area and will depend on the latest international technology in the recycling industry under the supervision of highly experienced specialists and technicians. The company will also set up branches in all other municipalities of the Emirate of Sharjah.
Al Owais added: 'The launch of 'Bee'ah' comes in confirmation of His Highness Sheikh Sultan's keenness on developing the Emirate of Sharjah at all levels. In the same way we have always known him as a leader of the process of science and culture in order for the Emirate of Sharjah to be a shining platform and the capital of the Arab culture, His Highness Sheikh Sultan is nowadays sparing no effort to convert the Emirate of Sharjah into a pollution-free city and help the residents and visitors of the emirate enjoy a clean and healthy environment, mirroring his keenness on building the civilization of man by word and deed to enable him to build his society in a sound environment. The assignment of 'Bee'ah' chairmanship to Sheikh Khalid Bin Sultan Bin Mohammed Al Qassimi, however, adds to our pride of the establishment and success of this company. By this, 'Bee'ah' will receive all forms of support that will ultimately be in the interest of the desired key goal of conserving the environment and familiarizing individuals, particularly the youth, with the importance of protecting the environment from any pollutants.'
Mrs Randa Kamal Chief Executive Officer of JMS Property Development stated that: 'Governments and institutions are set day after day to launch environmental programmes and projects aimed at seeking solutions as required for handling the increasing environmental issues, which our contemporary world suffer from after hving gone too far in exhausting its natural resources.
The 'Bee'ah' initiative is aimed at developing and investing the environment for today's and tomorrow's generations and ensuring continuous welfare to our society without putting extra stress to the environment, ruining it or destroying it. The significant environmental projects include recycling the waste and the materials consumed by the human beings on a daily basis. These materials and waste will be classified, handled and recycled for us to benefit from them once again, either with their former shape or with a new shape that serves the society. This project will undoubtedly be accompanied by awareness and promotional campaigns for the society in a bid to streamline the project and generate the maximum benefit from it.'
Director General of Sharjah Municipality, Eng. Abdullah Al Ameri, emphasized that the establishment of this company comes within the framework of the practical translation of Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah His Highness Dr Sheikh Sultan Bin Mohammed Al Qassimi's diligent efforts to develop and look after the environment in the Emirate of Sharjah. The rate of waste in Sharjah rises by 13 per cent annually and the areas in which waste is dumped are on the rise, with the volume of waste in Sharjah touching nearly one million tonnes, i.e. 1,250 kilograms per capita per year, he added:Certainly, Bee'ah will be the practical solution for reducing this rate, particularly that 55 per cent to 65 per cent of the waste is convertible and can be recycled, he said.
Meanwhile, Samer Kamal, senior partner in Tactical Connections Canada and strategic consultant of the project, said he was proud of this project, which was aimed at putting an end to the pollution in the Emirate of Sharjah and converting it into a green emirate that would be an example to follow by the countries of the region. 'We are happy to work with Sharjah Municipality as a government authority that did not hesitate to provide all the support to set up and launch 'Bee'ah' with the aim of putting an end to the problem of accumulated waste in Sharjah and handling such waste using the modern scientific techniques'.
As a first stage, 'Bee'ah' will collect, sort out and classify waste within the following categories: aluminium materials, plastic materials, all kinds of paper, glass and ceramic, building materials, iron and organic materials. These will be sent to the recycling factory, which will be operational by late 2008 after being completed according to the latest technical specifications under the supervision of a group of manufacturing and recycling engineers and specialists.
Besides, 'Bee'ah' will prepare educative programs and seminars for sorting out waste. These programs and seminars will be dedicated to all the sections of the society including students, teachers, workers and employees and will pave the way for the second stage of the project where waste will be sorted out and classified directly in houses, schools and work centers.
