Dubai Central Lab checks exhibits at Watch & Jewellery Fair

The Dubai Central Laboratory is participating in the Watch and Jewellery Dubai, which is currently being held at Dubai International Convention and Exhibition Centre and will last until 16 December 2006.
"We are also utilising the opportunity to educate people on the testing facilities we offer to create the much needed awareness on jewellery and precious stones," said Eng. Salah Amiri, Director of Dubai Central Laboratory Department at Dubai Municipality.
"We are checking products during the exhibition to ascertain the quality of products exhibited there. If we find any product which does not conform to the international standards and specifications, we do not allow them to be displayed," said Amiri.
Amiri said that the Municipality stall also distributed leaflets aimed at educating the public about the carat specifications, quality and standards of the jewellery products.
"We are giving the public more confidence on the jewellery and gem stones that are sold in the markets of Dubai," he said.
"The central lab offers an X-ray test for gold products which takes only 30 seconds. There are two tests for diamonds involving two equipments, a microscope and Diamond Sure," said Abdullah AbdulQadir Yousuf, Head of the Gemstones unit in the Dubai Central Laboratory Department.
He said the tests are not time consuming. "The lab issues certificates after testing gold, silver, diamond and platinum. We also do hallmarking," said Yousuf.
He said that the Municipality stall in the exhibition provided testing facility for the public also and issued certificates to them in addition to the free checking provided to the traders.
Watch & Jewellery Dubai is the leading Middle East exhibition serving the Worlds jewellery and precious timepieces markets. The event showcases the latest collections from manufactures and distributors from the watch and jewellery sectors.
