According to the agreement, the UAE University and HMSDC will work together on developing human resources by nominating UAE University medical students and graduates to train at Harvard Medical School, or its affiliated hospitals in Boston.

The MoU was signed by Dr. Hadef bin Jouan Al Dhahiri, Vice Chancellor of the UAE University and Dr. Robert L. Thurer, Chief Academic Officer of HMSDC at the Dubai Healthcare City, a member of Tatweer.

Acknowledging the Harvard Medical School as one of the best institutions for higher and continuing medical education, learning and research, Dr Hadef Al Dhahiri said: "The agreement is a win-win situation not only for us at the UAE University and HMSDC, but also for our students who can now acquire world-class qualifications from internationally recognised institutions."

Dr. Thurer of HMSDC said: "Our partnership with the UAE University will ensure a better professional future for graduates who wish to learn and gain experience at the Harvard Medical School and its affiliates."

According to the agreement, a joint committee will determine the terms of co-operation and create a work plan outlining the goals and implementation methods in line with a time table approved by both parties. The committee will convene at least twice a year to follow up on the joint agenda.

Co-operation may include research, development, and professional consultations; education and training programmes; dissemination of medical information; student internships and work integrated learning; exchange of knowledge; exchange of appropriate scientific publications; organisation of scientific conferences, workshops, and specialised seminars; and co-operation in the field of specialised training.

The MoU was initiated by eFORS Dubai, the marketing arm of the Research Affairs of the UAE University, which was founded to highlight the role of the institution in community development and facilitate its interaction with governmental and private sectors.
