He was recognized for his achievements in the growth and expansion of Damas and his significant contribution to Dubai's gold and jewellery industry.
Considered the most prestigious business awards in the MENA and Pan Arab Region, the Arabian Business Achievement Awards, now in its 6th consecutive year, was held at the Emirates Palace Hotel, Abu Dhabi on December 9. The event was attended by A-list business personalities and media from the region.
His Highness Sheikh Hamed Bin Zayed Al- Nahyan, Chairman of the Department of Planning & Economy of Abu Dhabi presented the award on behalf of Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Al Nahyan.
Commenting on the award, Abdullah said: 'On behalf of the Chairman, Deputy Managing Director and others at Damas, it gives me great pleasure and honour to receive this award. On this occasion I also recall the memory of my late father, Mohammed Taher Abdullah, who helmed the company from 1945, his experience and vision provided remarkable inspiration over the years. This award belongs to each and every employee and business partner of Damas and this recognition will further inspire us to achieve excellence in all our activities.'
Damas since its inception in 1907, has grown into one of the leading retailers of luxury jewellery and watches internationally. Today Damas' retail network spans across 19 countries in 4 continents with over 300 showrooms and 3000 employees. Damas retails some of the most premium brands in the world such as Tiffany & Co, Chanel, Carrera Y Carrera and Parmigani, to name a few.
Under Abdullah's leadership, Damas has expanded into a diversified business group, encompassing real estate developments, hospitality, lifestyle and consumer products. Damas Towers on the Sheikh Zayed Road is a testimony of the Group's foray into real estate. The company's expansion into other parts of the world makes it a truly global company.
Abdullah's contribution to the jewellery trade in Dubai has seen him assume various positions in the industry including Managing Director of Dubai Gold & Jewellery Group, a trade body representing more than 700 members of Dubai's jewellery trade and President of Marketing Commission of the world Jewellery Confederation, CIBJO.
He was awarded Italy's highest civilian award 'Commendatore' by the Government of Italy in 2004, for his meritorious services for promoting Italian jewellery trade.
Abdullah also serves as Director for a number of charity organisations such as Dubai Autism Centre and Rashid Paediatric Centre in UAE.
